Sonoma Valley Visit
By Cittaslow International
Delegation January 27-30, 2010
The City of Sonoma and Sonoma Valley celebrated four days of activities welcoming Gian Luca Marconi, President, and Pier Giorgio Oliveti, Director, from Cittaslow International headquarters in Italy.
The City of Sonoma and Sonoma Valley won the designation as the first Cittaslow in the United States with its juried application, on November 28, 2009 when they joined 129 other member towns internationally. Cittaslow (cheet AH slow), means “slow city,” and embraces ideas about quality of life, respect for tradition, local culture, hospitality and history, respect for all ages, growth and use of local food, environmental policy, artisanship, lifelong learning, and technology to further these ideas.
Cittaslow expands the Slow Food movement’s principles to include quality of life issues in communities of less than 50,000. Our film shows launch activities, area events, and projects that typify the reasons it met stringent international criteria for being named Cittaslow.
The last photos include representatives from other California towns interested in joining Sonoma to become the Cittaslow USA Network.
